The Montessorian proposal for childhood education appears highly modern and relevant in relation to the development of both motor skills and cognitive functions (Shivji, 2016;), strongly supported by neurosciences' embodied theories (Roessingh, H. & Bence, M. 2018)), and the increasing wellbeing problem related to childhood (Pate et al, 2014; Ross, 2012). This review analyses Maria Montessori's modern educational vision, in light of the emerging needs of today's children. The contribution reviews existing literature focusing on body and movement, but connected with cognitive, emotional and well-being aspects, which are critical in preschool education, both for educators/teachers (Atli, 2016; Akkerman, 2014; Lillard, 2011), and for school reform policies (Lillard, 2019). ; La proposta montessoriana per l'educazione dell'infanzia appare altamente moderna e rilevante in relazione allo sviluppo sia delle capacità motorie sia delle funzioni cognitive (Shivji, 2016;), fortemente supportata dalle teorie incarnate delle neuroscienze (Roessingh, H. & Bence, M. 2018), e dal crescente problema di benessere legato all'infanzia (Pate et al, 2014; Ross, 2012). Questa recensione analizza la visione educativa moderna di Maria Montessori, alla luce dei bisogni emergenti dei bambini di oggi. Il contributo esamina la letteratura esistente incentrata su corpo e movimento, ma connessa agli aspetti cognitivi, emotivi e di benessere, che sono fondamentali nell'educazione prescolare, sia per gli educatori / insegnanti (Atli, 2016; Akkerman, 2014; Lillard, 2011), sia per le politiche di riforma scolastica (Lillard, 2019).

COVID-19 has accentuated new methodological and epistemological-ontological questions in Physical Educa-tion. It is not only a didactic problem but sits alongside other central important issues waiting to be resolved, such as gender discrimination. This contribution presents evidence, gathered from twenty-eight P.E. teachers, on the subject of gender and the awareness that derives from it. This evidence deals with the tendencies towards competitiveness and performance inherited from sport, historically a male domain. Physical Education, due to its educational role, must address the issue of gender, in order to outline original and up to date strategies. The gender-related data from the questionnaire demonstrate that for the didactic orientation criteria applicable to Physical Education to be determined, teacher training needs to be initiated in the reflective laboratory, allowing for the fact that professional experience gained in school or through university training does not explore these issues in depth. ; La pandemia accentua nell'educazione fisica, nuovi interrogativi sul piano metodologico ed epistemologico- on-tologico. Se la didattica deve rinunciare a contatti e vicinanze corporee, altri nodi centrali attendono di essere sciolti, come la discriminazione di genere. Il contributo presenta evidenze, emerse da ventotto insegnanti di educazione fisica, riferite al genere e alla consapevolezza che ne deriva. Tali evidenze devono fare i conti con orientamenti alla competitività e performance ereditati dallo sport, storicamente dominio maschile. L'educazione fisica, per il suo ruolo educativo, deve affrontare il problema del genere per delineare strategie proprie, originali, attuali. I dati del questionario, riguardo il genere, fanno emerge la necessità di attivare una formazione, degli/delle insegnanti, sul laboratorio riflessivo, da cui determinare criteri di orientamento didattico applicabili all'educazione fisica, anche in ragione della dimensione etica e politica dell'esperienza educativa o formativa ...

Background: The school gives access to children, regardless of age, ethnicity, gender and socio-economic class and can be identified as the key environment in which to promote children's physical activity (PA). The guidelines of the European Union recommend accumulating at least 10-min bouts of PA to reach the daily 60 min. Active breaks (ABs) led by teachers inside the classroom represent a good strategy to promote PA. The aim of this pilot and feasibility study was to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness in terms of PA level of an AB programme in children aged 8–9 years attending primary school. Methods: A pre-post quasi-experimental pilot and feasibility study was performed in two primary school classes, one of which was assigned to a 14-week AB intervention (AB group) and the other to the control group (CG). At baseline and at follow-up, children were monitored for sedentary and motor activity during an entire week using ActiGraph Accelerometer (ActiLife6 wGT3X-BT). The satisfaction of children and teachers was assessed by self-administered questionnaires. Results: In the pre-post comparison, AB group (n = 16) showed a reduction in the minutes spent in weekly sedentary activity (−168.7 min, p > 0.05), an increase in the number of step counts (+14,026.9, p < 0.05) and in time spent in moderate to vigorous PA (MVPA): weekly MVPA: +64.4 min, daily MVPA: +8.05 min, percentage of MVPA: +0.70%. On the contrary, CG showed a worsening in all variables. ANCOVA analysis, after adjusting for baseline values, showed significant differences between the AB group and CG for time spent in MVPA, percentage of MVPA and step counts. The satisfaction of children and teachers was good. Teachers were able to adapt the AB protocol to the needs of the school curriculum, thus confirming the feasibility of the AB programme. Conclusions: This pilot and feasibility study showed the feasibility and effectiveness of the AB protocol and represented the basis for a future controlled trial.
